BRUGERNE FORTÆLLER

“If a tool doesn’t work, we drop it immediately. Connie proved itself on day one — and now we rely on it for every production.” Read and see how Zentropa are using Connie on their Oscar noimnated film productions.

For most people, film production conjures images of cameras rolling, actors performing, and directors calling the shots. But behind the scenes, there’s another reality: a mountain of paperwork. Contracts for cast and crew, agreements with locations, releases for extras — the administrative side of filmmaking can be just as demanding as the creative process.

At Zentropa, one of Denmark’s most renowned production companies, that burden was becoming all too familiar. As ther CEO Anders Kjærhauge puts it:

“This industry can’t afford to spend a lot of money on people just sitting around doing administration,” a production leader explains. “It’s honestly really annoying when all you want to do is make a film.”

The Test Case: The Last Viking

When Zentropa began work on Anders Thomas Jensen’s epic The Last Viking, they knew they needed a better way to manage the flood of contracts. The production team decided to try Connie, a European e-signature and document management platform designed with film workflows in mind.

It was a bold choice. The production leaders were clear: if the system didn’t work seamlessly, it would be cut from the process. “It was the litmus test,” they recall.

Connie passed.

From Paper Chaos to Digital Control

Since then, Connie has become a trusted tool across Zentropa’s productions. On the set of the upcoming film Ingen kære mor (No Dear Mother), filmed partly in a church in Lynge, the team faced a familiar challenge: managing contracts for a large group of extras.

This time, instead of stacks of paper and hours spent chasing signatures, everything was handled digitally through Connie.

“We use Connie for extra agreements, for location contracts, and for the more standardised crew agreements,” says the team. “And the next step will be to bring our standardized actor contracts into Connie as well.”

Life Before Connie

The contrast with earlier productions is stark. “If we take extras as an example, we sometimes had a couple of thousand,” a production manager remembers. “You had to stand out on set and make sure everyone signed. That quickly became a problem.”

Today, extras sign their contracts digitally before arriving on set. The paperwork no longer slows down the production.

Why It Matters

For Zentropa, Connie isn’t just a piece of software — it’s a shift in how they work.

  • Time saved: less manual chasing of signatures.

  • Accuracy improved: no lost or incomplete paperwork.

  • Creativity protected: more energy for the film itself.

As one of the team sums it up, the biggest win is simple: “We want to spend our time making films, not managing paperwork.”
